Explore the role of textiles in Bollywood cinema, focusing narrative meaning through colour, fabric, and embroidery. Registration required.
Explore the role of textiles in Bollywood cinema, focusing on how costume design highlights personal characteristics or hints at narrative meaning through colour, fabric, and embroidery. In addition to analyzing iconic costumes from well-known Bollywood films like Mughal-e-Azam and Jodha Akbar, this lecture considers how Bollywood fashion influences clothing trends in India and internationally. Participants will gain insight into the connections between film, fashion, and industry, and be invited to reflect on how cinema can shape and reflect cultural identities through textile design.
Presented in partnership with the Royal Ontario Museum. Registration required.
