Join us for a Phulkari Colouring Activity and learn more about how to use cultural elements like meditation and art to practice gratitude in your daily life.
Bring your parents and grandparents and spend the morning tuning into your inner child by coloring together, focusing on the power of breath and learning some gratitude exercises.
This workshop will be facilitated in English and Punjabi. No art experience needed. Supplies will be provided.
The Phulkari colouring activity will be led by Harman Grewal who is an illustrator, painter and tattoo apprentice based out of Brampton. Culture and Identity is a prevalent subject throughout his work; figures adorned with the Sikh dastar (turban) and the kara (steel bangle) around the wrists, arms covered with warrior-like bandages and prayer beads, combined with a general sense of playfulness in the apparel. Grewal is pushing the boundaries of what he can do with his work by incorporating his interests in hip-hop and anime with his ancestry. As a south-asian second generation immigrant raised in Canada he attempts to make sense of his roots with his lived experiences.
