Learn about healing medicines.
In recognition of National Indigenous Peoples day, Kristin Tyrer, a Cree woman from Moose Cree First Nation, will lead us in the traditional and current use and making of medicine bags, provide particular medicines to be placed in the bags, share information about how medicines are used, and open discussion about the differences between cultural appropriation and appreciation. She is Ililiwiskwew and currently resides in Brantford, Ontario. She holds an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from Nipissing University and currently works as an Indigenous Learning Consultant for the Centre for Indigenous Professional Learning. She also has experience working with Niwasa Kendaaswin Teg as a cultural safety resource developer/facilitator and has spent the past 10+ years working within the Indigenous Community of Hamilton. Her passion for the revitalization of traditional Indigenous practices has driven her desire to support the Indigenous community. The Indigenous Ceremony is an integral part of Kristin’s life. Walking the path in a good way, healing, and integrating the teachings of her Elders is how Kristin dedicates her commitment to this work of supporting others. We are so happy to welcome Kristin, who has noted, "Matau Maskinuu (The path that shines bright) nitišinihkâson (is my name)), and I am Wolf Clan".
